Generally hold-up volume is in the range 2-3ml for Vivaflow 200, 0.5-1.0 ml for Vivaflow 50.
However by pushing air into the module with a syringe the concentrate can almost be entirely recovered. Better still after pushing air into the module, introduce some buffer, then follow with air again: in this way recovery is nearly 100%, BUT the final concentration will be lower.
Therefore, in choosing the recovery method, always consider what is more important to the customer: the concentration degree (the final volume) or the maximum product recovery.
Working with very much diluted solutions, for a higher recovery it is better to use a series of Vivaflow 50 modules rather than a Vivaflow 200.
An ideal process should have a 1-cm width x 1-m length surface: approx. 3 Vivaflow 50 modules in a series.
Vivascience products are designed as single use, disposable products. However we know that customers will often try to reuse the products, especially more expensive products like Vivaflow 50 & 200.
Most Vivascience products are made from Polycarbonate, which is an extremely tough material, able to withstand centrifugal forces, but which does not like Alkaline (basic or pH greater than 7) conditions. Many customers try to wash Vivascience products in detergents like Teepol, Decon 90, Pyroneg and Alkanex.
These are all very high pH detergents (about 13). And they will attack and cause stress cracks and subsequent failure of Vivascience products.
If the customer insists on washing with detergent they need to use a neutral pH, non-ionic detergent such as Neutracon from Decon or similar.
